Workshop on Role of Commodity Associations in Asia and the Pacific, 11-13 November 2008, Bangkok, Thailand
The workshop was attended by 20 participants from India, Korea, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Participants came from AFMA members as well as from active associations in the region such as the Cotton Association of India (CIA), Organic Producers and Trade Association (OPTA), Philippines, Organic Agriculture Association of Thailand, Spice & Allied Products Producers and Traders’ Association, Sri Lanka, and the Myanmar Fruit & Vegetable Producers & Exporters Association. The meeting concluded that commodity associations are potentially valuable for the region as there is a need to increase the understanding of the function and activities of all parties involved in a chain and linkages between chain actors must become more formal and sophisticated in response to market trends.
